For centuries the government has attacked other countries and occupied illegally. A couple of days ago the capital of Afghanistan was attacked. Where was the int'l forces to respond? None of these soldiers are fighting down there. I have been to Helmand. The brits can't even come out of Camp Bastion unless they pay the Taliban. Where the Taliban gets the money from? Drug?...that's a joke. Even the kids on the streets know the politics now. It's the West who is playing the chess game. People who are doing the drug trade, are already inside the government and very close to the President and Int'l forces take the drugs on the military flights." Show less »

Last year you outlined UK policy as supporting reconciliation of the Taliban. Since 2001 this has been conducted with increasingly limited success by the Afghan government, due to intransigence on behalf of senior Taliban leaders and from opposition from the Afghan government. Most reconciliation processes occur after the fighting has stopped and are designed to find a lasting peace. What support will the international community give to supporting this process, ensuring at the same time that it is not undermined by intransigence from within elements of the Afghan government? Recent ISAF reconciliation strategies that will partner the Afghan strategy appear designed to support the COIN campaign by undercutting Taliban support. Given the nature of Afghan tribal politics, what will ensure that any successes at this level are not temporary? " Show less »

You say that we are in Afganistan so to protect our cities from terror attacks by the Talebans and Al- Queda. How much of conclusive evidence do you have that it is infact the Islamic extremists ( and them alone) who are behind the 9/11 attacks and the london bombings? You often use the phrase 'war on terror'. What is your threshold for declaring 'war on terror' against a nation, group etc? i.e is it based on proof ' on  balance of probabilities' or 'beyond a reasonable doubt'? If sufficient evidence is ever uncovered in any court of law, international court etc against a third party involved in endangering the security of the west, is there any possibility that this global 'war on terror'may be extended beyond the Talebans and Al-Queda to for example a state like Isreal? Secondly what is Britain's foreign policy and stand with regard to finding a peaceful solution for Palestine?

Afghans and the world are fighting a joint war in Afghanistan and we are talking about winning the hearts and minds of Afghans. Can you please comment if the following might be useful to achieve the heart and mind goal:

    1. Special Work Permits for the Afghan workers in UK, EU and US. (In Afghanistan 1 person works for the bread, butter and mental peace of 10-20 of his/her family members. So, if 50,000 such work permits are issued, it might mean winning the hearts and minds of 0.5-1 million Afghans). This wont cost UK,EU and US much as Afghans could be trained in thier homeland for the jobs that UK, EU or US needs employees for (Again creating further jobs in Afghanistan). Sure, you can carry out all background checks for security.

    2. An Educated Afghanistan is mandatory for a peaceful Afghanistan and it resulting in a strong ally. Can't it be possible to consider the Afghan Students as Home Students in UK, EU and US. This will enable more Afghans to study in these countries and thus get further blendid with the western culture. The long-term results might be very beneficial for UK, EU and US." Show less »
